A Vog Sunset

These are the moments when you know why you live in Hawaii! On Friday we went with Kevin's family to a place called Magic Island to eat dinner, watch the sunset and then watch the fireworks show they do every Friday. This was our sunset! The winds have been coming from the Big Island this week (which is not normal) and have blown in the vog (volcanic fog) from the eruptions they are having there. Mostly it reminds me of Utah with an inversion, but it sure does make for breathtaking sunsets. The fireworks after this were great, as always. So, if you are ever in Hawaii, make sure you are here for a Friday and we will take you for the sunset and the fireworks!

Baby Update

We went to the doctor again today for an ultrasound. My doctor was concerned that I wasn't as big as I should be and wanted to check on the baby to make sure he was growing properly. Of course we didn't complain about getting another peak at him!

The first picture at the doctor's office confirmed again that he is in fact a boy. (Sorry Jeff...I know you were really hoping it was just a girl making catcher signals). For the sake of his future modesty I have chosen not to post that picture.

As the pictures show, he again really liked to have his hand in front of his face. The technician kept prodding, trying to get him to move, but he wouldn't budge! It didn't help that he is already head down so it is harder to get him to move.

Unfortunately these two are the best look at his face, just to prove that he does have two eyes, a nose and lips. The good news is that despite my smaller than normal belly, he is a whopping 5 pounds and 13 ounces. That is huge (at least I think so considering he still has 5 weeks to go). Everything looked healthy and great, which is what we thought they would say anyway.

The other really cool thing about today was that we found out he has hair! Unfortunately the doctor declined to tell us what color it is, so we are going to have to wait a little longer for that.

The Blogging World

Having only been part of the blogging world a short time I find it to be interesting and sometimes quite confusing. I feel like my world keeps getting bigger and this is why: Someone emails me to tell me that they started a blog. I check out their blog. I notice in their list of friends a common friend has a blog that I didn't know about! Of course I go look at their blog and then discover another friend with another blog I did not know about...and on and on it spirals. So I ask you, if you are reading this please tell me about your blog so that my world can expand very quickly and then I can have fewer experiences of feeling terribly guilty that there is another blog I didn't know about and would have loved to have been reading.

The Scottish Festival

Yesterday we went to a Scottish Festival in Waikiki. While it was interesting, the food selection definately lacked. There was only one place that served Scottish food and it was $8 for the small amount of food you see (Haggas, Scottish Banger and Shephard's Pie). The entertainment was interesting though. There were tons of bagpipe groups, a dancing competition, anvil throwing (and the like of that), and then there were the guys in the armour fighting. Of course there were booths selling kilts for all those that forgot to bring their own. Interestingly, most of the people participating in this event were not from Hawaii. It seemed like a lot of them fly all over the place to different festivals competing--it would be an interesting life!
