Dear Abby, Ann Landers, or anyone with any sort of insight or advice,
For months I have had the perfect child. He is happy. He doesn't cry much. Around two months old he started sleeping through the night, which sealed his spot in the Best Child Hall of Fame. When he was around three months old we went on a trip and his sleeping schedule got a little disturbed. He started waking up once a night--not that big of a deal. However, for the past week and a half he has been getting up 3-4 times a night! I am desperate for more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep! Please tell me what has happened to my wonderful child and how can I fix it?
Sincerely,
Sleepless in Paradise

Dear Sleepless in Paradise,
The solution to this dilemma is simple and clear. The disruption in his sleeping is caused by what we in the profession like to call, "nowthativemetauntiejilliwillmisshertoomuchwhenwego". once you can alleviate the stress caused by your little one missing his Auntie, the sleeping pattern will resolve itself. I think it best she make a trip to visit very soon.
It's simple Nyquil!
When I took our little girl to her two month appointment I told the doctor how well she had been doing sleeping at night. He told me that this was abnormal and could possibly change around 4 months as she went through another growth spurt. We never really had a huge problem, however, there were a couple of nights (a couple of weeks maybe) where she woke up at 1-2 am starving. Sometimes I could just let her cry it out in her crib but other times I had to feed her. The good news is that she doesn't do that anymore. I'm not sure if this helps at all but I've been there. It will get better. Good luck!
the best advice i ever got was nap when they nap! kaimi started sleeping through the night when he was 6 months old and I thought we were golden but that phase leaves....and comes back...then leaves again....
Dear Sleepless in Paradise,
You are the third mom that has mentioned this. Interesting you all have babies the same age. If it is not them having a growth spurt it is them being teenagers. Welcome to the world of it NEVER STOPS!
Funny thing is when they are 15-18 they can be quoted as you never caring about them. Journal this time and flash it in his face when he says such things. Oh wait, he is a boy and might not ever hold this over you.
Place a binkie back in his mouth, don't let him see you, and let him go back to sleep. it becomes a habit, he needs to learn he does not have to wake up.
A mom's job is never done, you learn that soon as a new mom. But one day he will move out, and on and you will give anything to take care of him in the middle of the night.
Love,
Sleepless in Seattle
Just hang in there! Call me one day and I will come watch him while you sleep! Abigail always loves playing with cute boys!!
I'd like to second all of the advice given thus far (except maybe the NyQuil--wait, is that for you or the baby?).
And I'd like to congratulate you on becoming an offical member of the Crazy Sleep-Deprived Mother Club. To maintain your standing in the CSDMC you're not permitted to get a full, uninterrupted night's sleep for the next 15 years. You are allowed 2 mornings a year to sleep in (be sure to inform your husband of this right).
Club membership benefits include a lifetime supply of bags under your eyes, irrational thought processes for daily use, the inability to form coherent sentences after 7 pm, and an authentic CSDMC T-shirt, designed to help you stay awake at night (it's really itchy).
Welcome to the club!
