Let's Go South!!!

While we were in Utah we decided we needed a little more adventure, so we headed south to Wayne County with Chris and Wendy. (Thank you, thank you to Aunt Jan and Uncle Dan who let us stay with them!)
We played horseshoes. Chris would have done it for hours if he could have convinced any of us to play that long. (Wendy has good form in the photo above.)
I touched, let alone shot, a gun for the first time in my life, even if it was just a BB gun. I wasn't much of a shot, but everyone else was. It was the tragic end for many empty bottles.
For our main adventure we decided to go on a hike. Kevin had researched a hike he really wanted to do called Goosenecks in Capitol Reef National Park. Even though the hike is over 5 miles, it didn't sound too bad since it was all downhill so we decided Bennett would come along too.
The hike started out with open canyons followed a meandering stream.
Of course with Bennett along we had to stop for feedings...

...but we had picturesque scenery to keep us entertained.
Then the hike changed. It was still downhill, but the canyons narrowed and there were steep drop offs with little waterfalls to maneuver down.
Not such a problem when you don't have a baby along. Bennett made things much more interesting as we had to figure out how to get down the falls with him in hand.
This is an example of one of the narrows and how steep it becomes at the waterfalls.
Chris couldn't resist though seeing if he could scale the walls.

Looks scary, doesn't it. It always does from above, but when we got down and looked up it was probably only four feet or so.
All in all we had a great time on the trip and the hike is definitely one we won't forget. Somehow I think that hike might be repeated again in the future.

This hike looks awesome! I just love southern Utah! I'm so impressed that you were able to do that with Bennett. What an accomplishment! We've taken our baby girl hiking but not yet to one so adventurous. Maybe this will inspire us to be more daring.

that actually looks like a fun hike, I think I could do one like that! We'll have to remember that for next summer...
